The holidays are almost here. For many people, the holidays and travel go hand-in-hand. If you’ll be visiting a hotel this holiday season, you’ll want to keep bed bugs at the forefront of your mind. No hotel property is immune to these pests – whether you’re staying in a budget hotel or a five-star resort, bed bugs can creep in.
You may get a good sense of whether or not a hotel has had problems with bed bugs by checking out online reviews before you book. However, that’s no guarantee.
To help you keep bed bugs from ruining your trip or finding their way into your luggage and eventually to your home, Western Exterminator has developed a handy infographic that shows you five easy steps to inspect your hotel room for bed bugs and put your mind at ease.
If you find bed bugs, deciding what to do can be tricky. Most hotels will offer to move you to a new room right away, but you may be uncomfortable with that. Keep in mind that a bed bug problem in one room doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire property is infested. Bed bugs can be introduced to a property at any time by travelers. Try asking the hotel manager if the property has had previous issues with bed bugs. His or her answers may help you make a decision.
If you choose to stay, most hotels will rebook you into a new room immediately. Be sure to ask for a new room that is not to either side or above or below the room with the bed bug problem, as these are the rooms where a bed bug problem could most easily spread.
