Tick control for your yard

Ticks are more than just a nuisance—they can also pose serious health risks to your family and pets. These tiny parasites latch onto humans and animals, feeding on blood and potentially spreading dangerous diseases in the process. Some of the most concerning tick-borne illnesses include Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anaplasmosis, which can cause severe symptoms and long-term health issues.

If your property has high grass, wooded areas, or frequent wildlife activity, ticks could be lurking nearby, waiting for a host. Western Exterminator’s tick control services can help protect your home by targeting tick populations at the source.

Effective tick control: The Western Exterminator way

Western Exterminator offers expert tick control services designed to eliminate adult ticks,  control tick larvae, and control tick nymphs. Whether you need a one-time tick treatment for your yard or ongoing protection, our highly trained technicians will create a customized plan to help keep your yard protected from ticks.

Monthly inspections and treatments during peak tick season help keep populations low. When you work with Western Exterminator, here’s what you can expect:

  1. Comprehensive inspection – Once you schedule your tick inspection, our experts will thoroughly assess your property, identifying tick hotspots and recommending the best treatment plan for your needs.
  2. Preparation – Before applying treatments, we recommend removing pet bowls, toys, and lawn furniture from outdoor areas to ensure safe and effective application.
  3. Liquid and granular bait treatments – We use a combination of liquid and granular treatments to create a highly effective barrier against ticks. Our treatments target areas where ticks thrive, including tall grass, weeds, wooded edges, overgrown vegetation, and footpaths.
  4. Long-lasting protection – Our tick control applications remain effective for four to six weeks. If you choose our monthly tick control service, we’ll schedule your next treatment before we leave to ensure continuous protection.

Tick treatment options

How do you get rid of ticks in your yard? There are a variety of treatment options for ticks, as no two properties are the same. Our targeted treatments provide you and your family with the protection you need, whether you're looking for ongoing prevention or a one-time solution.

A single tick treatment for your yard that helps reduce tick populations includes a comprehensive exterior inspection and treatment. We use a combination of liquid and granular treatments to create a highly effective barrier against these pests.

Our most effective solution for long-term tick prevention is monthly treatments. Regular treatments during tick season can help control ticks in yards and minimize the risk of exposure to tick-borne diseases. The number of months for service is based on where you live and the tick season in your area.

Mosquito and Tick Control Service

Western technicians will identify high-risk areas in your yard and apply EPA-registered barrier treatments to help eliminate adult mosquitoes and ticks, control larvae and nymphs, and prevent mosquito reproduction.

When you bundle mosquito and tick control, you will receive ongoing treatments that target both pests, helping to reduce their populations and prevent future infestations. Our mosquito and tick sprays for yards target high-risk areas where these pests thrive. In addition to treatment, your technician will recommend ways to help reduce mosquito breeding sites and tick habitats.

Reduce your risk of tick bites

Preventing tick bites is key to avoiding dangerous diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. With Western Exterminator’s expert tick control services, you can protect your yard with targeted tick treatments that help eliminate these pests and keep them from returning.

In addition to professional treatments, you can help reduce tick encounters by:

  • Maintaining your yard – Keep grass short, trim vegetation, and remove leaf litter.
  • Avoiding tick-prone areas – Be cautious in wooded areas, tall grass, and brush.
  • Using tick protection – Wear long sleeves, tuck pants into socks, and apply EPA-approved tick repellents.

Frequently asked questions

Do tick tubes and other DIY methods actually work?

DIY tick control methods like tick tubes, natural tick spray for yards, and diatomaceous earth can help slightly reduce tick populations, but they are not as effective as professional treatments. There are a few drawbacks to DIY tick treatments, including:

  • Limited coverage – DIY methods target small areas, while professional treatments cover the entire yard.
  • Short-term effects – Many DIY solutions require frequent reapplication, while professional treatments can last four to six weeks.
  • Expert application – Professionals identify high-risk areas and apply proven treatments for long-term control.

What is the best tick repellent?

The most effective tick repellents contain one or more of the following ingredients:

  • DEET (20-30%) – Long-lasting and effective for repelling ticks on skin and clothing.
  • Picaridin (20%) – A non-greasy alternative to DEET with similar protection.
  • Permethrin – Used on clothing and gear, this insecticide kills ticks on contact.
  • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE, 30%) – A natural option with moderate effectiveness.

When applied correctly, these ingredients can provide some protection against ticks. While repellents can help prevent bites, they do not eliminate ticks from your yard. Western Exterminator’s tick control services target ticks at the source with liquid and granular treatments that provide long-term protection.

When are ticks the most active?

In the western U.S., ticks are active from around April to November. As temperatures rise in the spring, ticks emerge from hibernation and begin searching for hosts. April to June is the peak tick season in many western states. They are typically most active during dawn and dusk, as they prefer cooler, damp environments to hide in.

Ticks remain active throughout the summer months, particularly in areas with high humidity or around vegetation, where they can hide. Tick activity slows down when temperatures drop below 45°F for extended periods. In the western U.S., this typically happens in late fall and winter, depending on the region.

How do you get rid of wasps yourself?

We do not recommend trying any DIY methods to get rid of wasps on your own. Wasps can pose serious harm to both people who are and aren’t allergic to them. If you notice wasps on your property, contact Western Exterminator, and a Technician will put a treatment method in place.
