Expert bee control: the Western way

Western’s pest control technicians know how to control bees the right way and follow all local, state, and federal regulations for bee removal and prevention. We strive to protect pollinators and the environments where they live to ensure they are not affected when applying external treatments to residences and businesses.

Before you take action against bees on your property, contact Western for an inspection. Western will only remove a bee's nest if there is a viable threat to people in the home. The method of removing bee nests can vary depending on the size of the nest, where it's located, and what types of bees are present. Therefore a site inspection and initial consultation are very important.

Before any treatment or removal plan is put into place, a Western technician will perform an inspection to identify what types of bees are on your property. Different bee species require different equipment and treatment methods, so proper identification is key. Learn more about the common bee species you will most likely encounter near your property.

Step 2: Treat or contact a beekeeper

After the correct species of bee is identified, your Western technician will put a bee control plan in place or recommend contacting a local beekeeper to help relocate the hive. If a beekeeper is not needed, your technician will perform the proper treatment method on the hive, or multiple hives, and remove the hive(s).

Step 3: Prevention

After treatment is performed, proper prevention is the best way to avoid another infestation. Your technician can point out any potential entry points that would need to be closed off to prevent bees from getting in. To prevent any future problems, contact your technician at the first sign of any bee nests.

Different types of bees

There are over 20,000 types of bees worldwide. Though bees are amazing for our environment, they can pose serious health risks to those who have a bee allergy. Knowing what type of bee is on your property is the best way to decide on the perfect treatment plan to control them.

Different bee species require different treatments and equipment. Often, bees are mistaken for wasps, each requiring its own unique treatment. Our experts live in the surrounding areas they service and are familiar with all bee species living in California, Washington, Arizona, and the Pacific Northwest.

Should you get rid of bees yourself?

While it might be tempting to tackle a bee nest removal on your own, it's important to consider the risks and challenges involved. Bees can become aggressive when their hive is threatened, leading to multiple bee and wasp stings. Also, if you mistake bees for wasps, you might use ineffective methods that only make the situation worse.

Handling bees without proper knowledge and protective gear can result in injuries. Instead of risking your safety, it's important to use a professional bee removal service.

Beehive removal service

Western technicians use the proper tools and protective suits to ensure the process is safe. They are trained to treat various types of hives and nests. Once the bee species is identified, your technician will discuss treatment options with you. In some instances, treatment may involve a beekeeper, or it may involve eliminating a nest that could pose a health threat. If left untreated, bee nests can get large enough to enter your property, resulting in a hazard to everyone in and around the area.

How to keep bees away

It is best to leave bee removal to the experts – either a pest control company or a beekeeper, depending on your scenario. Keeping bees away using DIY bee removal methods is not recommended because it can be dangerous and most likely will not work. Most home and business owners do not have the proper clothing or equipment to deal with bees on their own. Identifying the type of bee and implementing treatment plans is a job for a Western technician.

Frequently asked bee control questions

The best way to get rid of bees is to have a pest control company, like Western Exterminator, identify the type of bee on your property. Once the species is identified, you will either work with the bee technician or contact a local beekeeper to have the bees removed from your property.

Many factors can affect the cost of removing a beehive, including the type of bee species, the size and severity of the infestation, and the equipment needed to remove the bees. Western offers free home inspections and can provide estimates for bee removal.

We do not recommend attempting to remove bees on your own. Especially if you or someone on your property is allergic to bees, it is best to stay away from the bees or hive and call an expert. Once on site, an expert can determine the safest and most effective course of action. It may involve bee control treatments or complete hive removal by a licensed beekeeper.

We do not recommend attempting to remove bees while they’re swarming. Swarming is a natural process for a bee colony. It occurs when a hive has become too crowded or when bees abandon their hive because of a lack of resources. Swarming bees are not prone to attacking and will ultimately leave the area within 24-48 hours.

Bees are often attracted to properties with abundant food sources like flowers, fruit trees, or even open containers of sugary drinks. Structural openings or cavities can also invite bees to nest, especially during the spring and summer months.

Signs of a bee infestation include an increased number of bees near your windows, roof eaves, or walls, as well as visible nests or honeycombs. If you notice a constant stream of bees entering and exiting a specific area, it’s likely you have a colony nearby.

It is highly discouraged. Without proper protective equipment and knowledge of bee behavior, attempting bee nest removal can be dangerous. It's much safer to employ professional bee control services.

To help reduce the chances of bees nesting, regularly inspect your property for potential nesting sites, seal cracks and gaps, and remove sources of standing water. Keeping food sources like fruit trees and flowers away from structures can also help.

Our bee control services prioritize safety. We use eco-friendly and humane methods to remove bees, ensuring the well-being of pets and children while effectively addressing the problem.
