The Inspection

First, we need to determine if you really have a termite problem. We will inspect your home and property and look for all of the telltale signs of a termite infestation. That means looking for discarded termite wings from swarmers, frass (termite droppings), spongy floors, doors that don’t close right anymore, damage to eaves or rafter tails, even the sounds of termites munching through wood.

In addition, we’ll note any conditions conducive to future infestations, such as excessive moisture areas. If we determine that you have termites, it’s time to talk about the best remedy for the level of severity of the infestation and to meet the needs of your specific situation.

The Consultation

If the inspection reveals you have a termite problem, we will discuss all of the potential termite treatment options and our Inspector will review the strategies that best suit the infestation. We will also recommend ways of preventing future infestations.

If Drywood Termites are found coming from the inaccessible areas of the structure, then the likely recommendation will be fumigation. If that’s the case, we will walk you through the steps of the fumigation process, making it as simple as is possible.

While much of the heavy work for the fumigation is performed by our highly trained technicians, the fact is that we will need your help in readying your home. Fumigation involves encasing the property in an airtight tent, then infusing it with a powerful fumigant, Sulfuryl Floride, which penetrates deep into the walls and eliminates the insects.

That means that for the homeowner we’ll need you to:

  • Make arrangements to be out of the house during the fumigation process
  • Remove pets and plants and all living things from the structures to be fumigated
  • Seal food, medicines, tobacco products, etc., in approved fumigation bags that we provide or remove them entirely from the structure
  • Deeply soak dirt areas and garden beds immediately adjacent to your home to help with the seal of the tent
  • Make arrangements to have your local gas provider turn the gas back on the day you are certified to re-enter the property.

Once everything is prepared, on fumigation day we show up on time and start the process. We verify all necessary preparations have been made and then cover your home with our brightly-colored tarps The tent we create makes sure that the gas is sealed within, eliminating the termites, and creates no risk to neighbors or the properties around your home.

Once we verify that the home is empty and secure, the fumigant is released into the structure. The amount of fumigant used is precisely measured and based upon the weather conditions and cubic footage of your home. The fumigant will filter throughout the structure and penetrate into all the wood members of the whole structure in order to destroy the termite colony trapped inside.

The fumigant eliminates the termites, but will not damage your furniture, clothing, carpets or your home. It will also leave no residue behind when once the process is completed.

Once the fumigation is complete, our experts monitor the aeration process in order to insure all of the gas has been removed and we can certify your home for re-entry. When you and your family return home, you can be assured that the targeted insects have been eliminated. In addition, we will issue for you a Homeowner Protection Policy that will warranty your home against future infestations.

Is Fumigation Effective for Other Pest Infestations?

The simple answer is “yes.” However, the only other household pest we are likely to recommend fumigation for is bed bugs. Although bed bugs can be locally treated very effectively with chemicals or heat, there are times when fumigation may be the best treatment solution for an extensive infestation.

Whatever the pest is that you are finding in and around your home or property, contact us for more information about how Western Exterminator can help you with a pest control solution.

Call the Termite Experts

Termites can completely destroy your home. They cause over five billion dollars in damages every year. Termites are called the hidden invaders, because they can infest a home for years before anyone realizes that they’re there. By that time, the damage to floors, walls, and the very structural integrity of your home can be extensive and costly.

That’s why it’s so important to have regular inspections by a licensed professional who knows where to look and understands the termite biology so those ravenous munching machines are caught early. Termite damage is also usually not covered under homeowners insurance.

To make sure that termites don’t take over your home, we recommend regular inspections by a professional inspector. Our Homeowner Protection Policy provides that service and gives you that peace of mind that if termites come back, you’ll be covered.
