What do roach droppings look like?

Western Answers

I’ve spotted something that looks like cockroach droppings—how do I know it’s from roaches?

The best way to know if droppings are from roaches is to look for other clues, such as shed skins, egg cases, or a musty odor. Because droppings can be mistaken for those of other pests, recognizing multiple signs together is a more effective way to confirm an infestation.

What do cockroach droppings look like?

Roach droppings depend on the size of the roach. Smaller roaches leave tiny black specks that resemble ground coffee or pepper. Larger cockroaches leave larger, cylinder-shaped droppings with blunt or ridged ends.

You might also notice dark smear marks along walls, baseboards, or near where they hide.

What’s the difference between mouse and cockroach droppings?

Mouse and roach droppings can look similar at first, but there are key differences. Mouse droppings are usually larger, rice-shaped, and pointed at the ends, while cockroach poop tends to be smaller and may appear as tiny specks or cylindrical pellets.

Spotting either is often a sign of an active infestation.
