Does vinegar repel insects?

I’ve heard online claims that vinegar can repel pests. Is this true?

Vinegar may have some impact on temporarily repelling certain pests, but it is not a reliable animal repellent or long-term control method. At best, it can disrupt scent trails that ants leave behind or mask odors that attract pests, but this effect is temporary. Repeated, direct application of concentrated vinegar also runs the risks of potentially damaging certain surfaces, fabrics or plants

Can vinegar kill ants?
