How do you keep geckos out of your house?

Western Answers

I keep seeing geckos outside around my walls and windows. How can I keep them away from my property?

Geckos often sneak indoors in search of food, water, or shelter. There are a number of species found in the US, including the Texas banded gecko, the Mediterranean house gecko and the common house gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus). Geckos are usually found near properties with surrounding vegetation and are attracted to areas where they can find an abundance of insects to feed on.

Geckos are harmless and do not bite humans or animals, but if you are looking for ways to limit gecko activity around your property, you can:

  • Seal cracks around doors, windows, and utility lines to help reduce possible entry points
  • Remove or limit the use of outdoor lighting near entryways - lights attract the insects that geckos like to hunt
  • Trim back nearby vegetation.

Geckos feed on insects, so reducing other pests around your property can make the space less attractive to them. This is where our expert exterminators can help.
