Are ultrasonic pest repellers safe for dogs?

I’m thinking about trying one of those plug-in devices, but I’m worried about my dog. Can an ultrasonic pest repeller hurt dogs?

Most ultrasonic devices are marketed as safe for dogs, and they don’t generally bother dogs. However, they may cause stress in smaller rodent pets like guinea pigs and hamsters. 

But there’s another important factor: ultrasonic units tend to offer at best only short-term relief from pests. They may change pest behavior in the short term, but the problem usually returns once the pests get used to the sound.
