Can you hear termites in walls?

I can sometimes hear a faint clicking sound coming from the wall. Could that be termites? Do termites make a sound?

It could be termites. Termites do make a noise, though it's subtle enough that most people never notice it. The sound you're most likely to hear is a soft clicking or tapping, caused by soldier termites banging their heads against tunnel walls to signal danger to the colony. 

Workers feeding on wood can also produce a faint rustling sound, almost like paper being crumpled very slowly.

That said, hearing a sound in your wall doesn't automatically mean termites. Pipes, settling wood, and other insects can all produce similar noises. If you're concerned, a free termite inspection with us is the most reliable way to find out what's going on.
