Signs of an infestation
House mice tend to stay close to their nesting sites, so signs of mouse activity are usually concentrated in one area. Look for small, dark droppings (around 1/4 of an inch long with pointed ends) near food sources, along baseboards, or inside cupboards.
Field mice are more likely to show up in garages, sheds, and outbuildings, or in rooms that aren't used often. Their droppings are similar in size to house mouse droppings but may be found in less predictable locations.
Because deer mice can carry hantavirus, avoid sweeping or vacuuming droppings without proper precautions, and consider professional pest control to deal with any presence.
