What Is Inside a Bug Bite?

What is in a bug bite? Well, that depends on the bug! Many of the biting bugs/insects and arachnids, such as lice, bed bugs, flies, ants, and spiders, inject a foreign protein in their saliva when they bite and this causes itching and redness in the one who is bitten.

Other insects and arachnids, such as mosquitoes, some lice, ticks, and bed bugs also inject a blood-thinning protein as they bite which enables them to suck the blood easier. This fluid itches and causes redness at the bite area.

Most bites do not need special treatment, unless the person bitten has an allergic reaction. Then it may be life threatening. Some spiders, ants, bees, hornets, and wasps inject venom when biting or stinging. People often have a reaction to these that causes a large reddened area that is quite painful.

Some other bug attacks may need treatment, such as a bee sting, when the bee leaves its stinger in the host. Removing the stinger and treating with ointments may reduce the pain and swelling.

Since bug bites and stings are so problematic, get rid of the pests!

A great way to get rid of pests is to treat your living area and outside areas close to the house. Keeping the bugs at bay is easier than treating bug/insect bites and is healthier as well.
